Never a dull moment in the world of Oz

Amos has just returned from busy trips to the States and to Brazil.  A lovely story occurred in Brazil. In the midst of a busy engagement, Amos was approached by a young bookseller who had travelled 800 kilometers to tell Amos in a brief 5 minute meeting that he had read the Brazilian edition of A TALE OF LOVE AND DARKNESS, then all of Amos’ other works and decided to name his bookshop after Amos – OZ Libraria & Cyber Café.  Attached are 2 photos – one, showing the bookseller, Marcos Vinicius Mota Soares with Amos and the other, a photo of the front of the bookstore.  He wanted to tell Amos how he had been affected by his books.  As Amos said “This is the stuff of dreams for a writer.”

The other news is intriguing about the latest pirated edition (the first was the Kurdish edition of A TALE OF LOVE AND DARKNESS).  This time it’s the Persian  edition of SUDDENLY IN THE DEPTH OF THE FOREST.

The Iran Book News Agency put out a release on 31st October as follows:

“Suddenly in the Depths of the Forest” hits Iranian bookstores
Published by Farhang-e Javid, translated by Shahrooz Rashid”

It then went on to describe the story, commenting:

“The work is about tolerance, loneliness, denial and remembrance.”

Later in the release, they quote from the text on the back of the jacket, which says that he has been a prominent advocate and major cultural voice of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  The jacket text also mentions some of the awards and adds that Oz has been considered in recent years as a serious candidate to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.

When the Israeli newspaper, Ma’ariv, ran a full page story about this last week, Amos was quoted as saying “It makes me happy.  I hope we can occupy
Iran with books and not with bombs.”
